Cirque Du Soleil

Greetings from my warm and cozy house in the middle of a blizzard!

Yes, that's right. I finally got the snow day I have been waiting 3 years for as Colorado is enduring a blizzard expecting to bring 1-2 feet by tomorrow morning.

And I just saw a kid ride by my window on his bicycle. Tough guy won't let anything phase him but as I make no secret as to how much I hate the snow, would you guys believe me if I told you we drove almost 20 miles in this storm last night?

I know, that is HUGE! And it was all to go see a show I've been dying to watch for years now: Cirque Du Soleil.

Every year Jeremy and I talk about going to Las Vegas for a quick weekend getaway. He has been once before and I’ve only been to their airport for a quick layover.

And then we start really talking about it and realize we are possibly the lamest couple ever to go to Las Vegas. After all, Jeremy doesn’t ever drink alcohol and we are both too cheap to really gamble. It would be penny slots for both of us and how much fun can you have with those?

We always talk about going to just see the shows and experience the world of Vegas but then file it away in our “maybe, someday” file and move on with our merry way.

But a few weeks ago I was having lunch with my good  friend, Carolyn, and she mentioned that Cirque Du Soleil: Dralion was coming to a city near us in February.

So we jumped on the idea of a double date night and an opportunity to get a Vegas Experience without really having to go.

Carolyn and I have been friends since our junior high days when we met in Home Ec class and got to know each other better as we sewed pillow cases and learned how to "cook."

We ended up in the same group of girlfriends all throughout junior high and high school, attended the same University for college and both married tall nerdy boys with the same sense of humor after graduation.

Basically, I love her.

Carolyn and I dancing it up - circa de 2006

As we got closer to the show date and the predictions for our blizzard kept getting worse, I seriously considered canceling and just staying home, safe and sound from the icy roads. But with convincing from both Carolyn and my husband {who didn't want to waste the money we spent} I shakily got in the car and prepared myself for an anxiety attack.

Thankfully we car pooled with Trevor and Carolyn most of the way and I may or may not have had a couple of drinks to calm my nerves once we got there. All I have to say is; I am SO glad we didn't cancel!!

It was such an incredible night watching gymnasts and dancers on crack while experiencing sensory overload. Seriously, I didn't even know where to look half the time because there were so many different acts going on.

Of course we weren't allowed to take pictures during the show so I had to steal these online.

I've never seen such incredible acrobatics before!

I decided during intermission that if these people can dangle from metal rings with only their feet, fly over the audience hanging on to ribbon, do back flips off 30 feet ramps onto trampolines and then scale back up the wall, then I could put my big girl panties on and get in a car during a snow storm for the ride home.

Even if this was our view for most of the drive:

So basically the moral of this story is this: Sometimes you need to face your fears in order to experience cool things in life. And a drink or two doesn't hurt either.

So glad you still got to see the show and make it home safe. Where did you get the polka dot shirt you're wearing? I LOVE IT!!

Enjoy your day inside and stay warm! :)

So glad you got to see it! I saw one of their shows in Vegas last Feb and it was AWESOME! I was on a work trip and while we aren't big Vegas people either, I think you and Jeremy should def go- just to see the place- it's crazy! You'll have fun just walking around and seeing all the casinos- plus you can fit a show in. My one regret- not paying to see Garth Brooks play to a tiny audience at the Wynn : ( Maybe next time :)

Oh man, I've been to Vegas twice and saw a different Cirque de Soleil each time. They were both out of this world! I'd never seen anything like it! I'm so glad y'all braved the storm and went!! And glad you made it back home safe and sound!

ohhhh liquid courage how helpful you are sometimes! haha! glad y'all had a good time, I've only seen them once when they came to the arena I worked at, and from my understanding it wasn't a great show, but I still sat there eyes-wide-jaw-dropped for the whole thing!

I've heard this show is amazing! Totally worth driving through a blizzard for. We're super lame when it comes to Vegas too. It doesn't stop us though...we've been over a dozen times. We don't drink, rarely gamble {I do LOVE the penny slots though} and only occasionally go to the pool. We eat, go to shows and shop. It's nothing really special, it's just a fun place to go for a long weekend. You've got to go!

I'm so glad you went, too! And that you guys are safe. This is something I've been wanting to do for years! AND we (ok I) also wanted to go to Vegas for the shows and mostly for the food (Bobby Flay's restaurants are on my bucket list), but there's nothing else I would want to do there. So we haven't made it there yet. One of those days...
And of course you guys just have to look all kinds of hot!

Oooo jealous! Kyle actually went to Las Vegas with his family a few years ago, and he said it was pretty much a waste (prob because we're lame like you!) EXCEPT for the Cirque du Soleil show! He said it was incredible, and I'd love to see one sometime! So I'm glad you went, and very glad you made it back alive! Enjoy being snowed in now!

P.S. I love that you and Jeremy always still take pics together esp before going to an event - Kyle and I hardly ever take pics together now. We need to change that!

Wow, the show looked amazing! I can totally relate to the nerves with driving in the snow. We live in snowy MI so I experience this quite a lot. I'm on edge not because of my own driving skills (or that of the person I'm riding with)--it's the other idiot drivers I don't trust! Doesn't help that once my husband and I were knocked off the road into a ditch during a snowstorm by a car spinning wildly out of control...

First of all I would have been FREAKING out driving on the way home. OMG! So glad you made it safely :)

Secondly, so glad you got to experience such an awesome show! We saw Cirq's Le Reve in Las Vegas and it was one of the coolest things I've ever seen!

I'm so proud of you for facing one of your biggest fears!! Isn't it amazing what a drink will do to calm your nerves? ;) That looks like an AMAZING show! And am I imagining it, or did we literally just have a conversation about going to Vegas together this summer??? I thought we convinced you guys!
